At least my blog is unpopular enough that only one Enns fan found me.

We have an interesting struggle vis-a-vis divorce and remarriage in the churches of Christ. I don't know how many other groups struggle with this, but the most popular interpretation of the MDR passages in our brotherhood demands that it is a sin for the "one put away" to ever remarry. Is this something that other groups fight about as well?

in HIS love,
nickFalantedioshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16142960942087875045noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11840313.post-16048249724981016222008-04-05T19:02:00.000-07:002008-04-05T19:02:00.000-07:00Thank you much! I do not agree with all of it, but much of it is well done. As for Instone-Brewer his work has been throughly critiqued now. See the reviews of his book. Jesus' view is very clear from Mark 10-- no divorce.

BW3Ben Witheringtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06017701050859255865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11840313.post-57019073935893615452008-04-05T17:20:00.000-07:002008-04-05T17:20:00.000-07:00Dear Dr. Witherington,Sorry, this is off topic but...Dear Dr. Witherington,

Sorry, this is off topic but I am contemplating getting "A Marginal Jew" by J. P. Meier and I was wondering your thoughts on his work. I also just finished reading through a work by David Instone-Brewer on divorce in the Gospels, particularly Matthew, and I remembered your commenting about Rabbis (or lack thereof) during Jesus' time, which brought up questions. Have you read his work and if so, what is your opinion of it? Can you give any sources that might help in clarifying his views of reading the sayings of the Matthean Jesus in light of rabbinical teachings on divorce? Thank you so much!Michael Gilleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00079643017537005996noreply@blogger.com
